EXAMINATION OF ANTHROPOLOGICAL REMAINS FOUND IN UNUSUAL POSITION IN KECSKEMÉT-GALAMBOS SITE I-II

During the preventive excavation conducted in connection with the construction works of the Mercedes-Benz Car Factory, the site of Kecskemét, Galambos I-II was investigated. In the course of the excavation two human skeletons were found in the features of a Late Avar settlement. A female skeleton of Maturus age was placed into a pit in a contracted position. It had several traces of cutting. Serious injuries caused with some kind of sharp cutter (e.g. sword) could be seen partly on the feet, partly at the skull. Among them almost all of the cuts observed on the skull can be interpreted as the causes of death. The other skeleton was unearthed on the baking surface of a furnace. The anthropological analysis has shown that these were the remains of a male of Maturus age. There were no pathological alterations that could explain the death of this individual. Judging from the special position of the dead we can suggest that he became the victim of an act of violence.
