amount of expenses. In those years the one-time resort house became a real splendid casde suitable for recei­ving a larger group of high-ranked guests. It was often frequented by the Kalocsa archbishop Lajos Haynald and Ferenc Liszt, the portraits of whom were immorta­lised by the painter. The castle was visited by Ede Remé­nyi, Jenő Hubay, the composer and performer Ferenc Korbay and more American guests: e.g. the press mag­nate József Pulitzer, the millionaires Blumenthal and J. Wanamaker. Out of Munkácsy s painter colleagues László Paál, E. Bertier, Gustave Dóré, the Belgian Emi­le Ch. Wauters, the Austrian Hans Temple were staying here. The latter two painted the portrait of Munkácsy as well. The Passion pictures: the Christ Before Pilate and the Calvary presented in America were bought by Wa­namaker in 1887. Munkácsys disciples and assistants (e.g. József Rippl-Rónai, László Pataky) collaborated in copying the masters works delivered to America. To his Salon pictures he often used his luxurious environment, salon, or the veranda in Colpach. Here he made the works entitled the Little Sugar Thief /2S
