Resume. Munkácsy and Colpach

(1883), the Breakfast in the Park, the Chat in the Park (1887) and the Little Gardener. Events taking place in Colpach, Ell were reflected by his works e.g. the Sleeping Grandfather (1886), the Chatelaine’s Birthday (1887), the Watering in the Glass House (1887) and the Piano Lesson (1890s). He was fond of observing details calling forth the memories of his birthplace, the Great Plain. He painted the world of the labouring peasants coping with fate and na­ture in his works entitled the Colpach’s Landscape with Washwomen (cca. 1883), the Washing Women (1892), the Ploughing in Colpach (cca. 1885) and the School in Colpach. By the second half of the 1890s Munkácsy ran out of his strength. He was hardly able to finish his picture Ecce homo with the help of his disciples and carry it to Budapest but after that he had to stay in various health-centres. In 1897 first he was kept in Colpach, then treated in the sanatorium of Endenich near Bonn. Here he died on Is'of May 1900, his as­hes were laid in Budapest.
