Heckenast Gusztáv: FINAL SPEECH OF THE PRESIDENT

which we want to leave. And I also think of professor Chistozvonov in Moscow who a few years ago on a meeting of the joint commission of Soviet and Hungarian historians protested rather hysterically against the imperialist machinations which were shown by the introduction of the notion of protoindustrialization. However, the phenomenon which Mendels denoted with that awful expression because he does not know Greek is an existing, real problem and task. On the conference of yesterday and today Ye could hear excellent and sensible suggestions for the phrasing of this problem. In Vera Bácskai's wording of yesterday we should speak about those forms of the industrial production which are different from the production in guilds. István Gajáry noted correctly that home-working also belongs here. In my opinion there is a problem with the term namely that bungling industry is also a form different from production in guilds and it does not belong here. In any case it follows from Bácskai's wording and it was stated by Tamás Faragó also yesterday that we should study every form of production which is based on division of labour including market and price conditions. At first László Veres suggested that the time limits should be the period between 1711 and 1848. I agres and I tirink everyone else agrees with Ferenc Szabó's remark that we should not close researches in 1848 but extend them over the second half of the 19th century and what is more over the 20th century. There were nice examples listed here of the manufacture forms existing even today. How shall we call ourselves? What shall we choose as our task? Károly Vörös in his latest comment suggested the wording "researches of capitalistic industrial small enterprises" about which.I think it is in accordance with all the tasks we will have to-research. But from practical reasons I complete it and suggest that we should research manufactures and other capitalistic industrial small enterprises in every respect of economical, social and technical history. For the time being I can suggest this long name only. Manufactures in Hungary will be a good title for the volume or the pifedical as it is called by the editors. It is short and clear but we must keep it mind that it is not only manufacture but also every other capitalistic industrial small enterprise that we have to research. Once someone will find the short and expressive name. Which form of organization shall we choose for us? A team of the people sitting here is given. Is it enough or shall we choose a closer form? In my opinion it is enough for the moment. In the
