Szörényi Gábor András: A csorbakői vár története 1648-ig

THE HISTORY OF THE CASTLE OF CSORBAKO UNTIL 1648 The ruins of the castle of Csorbakő are situated in North Hungary in Borsod-AbaújZemplén county above the village Szuhogy. Its surrounding is the low hilly country of the mountains of Rudabánya, evén the castle can be found on a relative low-lying wooded hill. In the Middle Ages the region must have been a woodland similar to the présent day condition, this is proved by historical sources and maps. In my essay I assumed the history of the castle of Csorbakő using known as well as previously unpublished sources. Although the fírst written documents mentioning the castle date back to the 15th century, it is known that evén earlier was to be found a fortification above Szuhogy. That castle was built and named „Csorbakő" by Miklós Ládi Csorba. It might have been built in the very beginning of the 14th century. The early history of Csorbakő can be well listed in the line of the other so called small castles from the 14th century. Later the sons of Miklós Csorba didn't have enough money to sponsor the castle so its condition amortized continuously. In 1351 the Ládi sons sold Szuhogy including the castle to the Perényi family. Csorbakő was in its prime in the periód of secret chancellor Imre Perényi. In 1403 he was given a building permit on the territory of Csorbakő by Zsigmond Luxemburgi and later Imre Perényi attached différent estâtes to it. Csorbakő became a reál aristocratie résidence in the time of Imre Perényi and his younger son István. The landowners founded evén a „pálos" monastery in the near Nyárád where Imre and István Perényi are buried. After two générations, however, Csorbakő lost its résidence role. Later it had an économie function only among the Perényi estâtes. In the 16th century Péter Perényi became the owner of Csorbakő who had a strong social base and owned large, contiguous estâtes in North Hungary. This was the reason why king Ferdinánd Habsburg confiscated the castle of Csorbakő and a part of his estate from Péter Perényi and presented it to Ferenc Bebek. Ferenc Bebek granted Csorbakő to his brother Imre. There are no historical sources about the next thirteen years of the castle. The reason might be that the Bebek family fitted up a wellequipped forger workshop in the castle. During the excavations starting in 1928 a number of falsifier tools, semi-finished products and counterfeits were found there. The forging lasted until 1553, till the death of Imre Bebek. Ferenc Bebek had the castle demolished this year trying to clear himself. Later the castle is mentioned only as a ruin in différent sources. The estate moved to Szuhogy belonging to the castle. In the sources from the 17th century Csorbakő is already mentioned as part of the village Szuhogy. Gábor András Szörényi 226
