was trusted be make the necessary preparations for it. The county was always in delay with the building of the roads and with the suitable placing of the post master's office. There was a debate in establishing the postal stations in Harsány and Tard, the postal directorate of Kassa insisted on it, but the County Borsod suggested because of logical and economical reasons that the postal stations should be situated in Emőd and Mezőkövesd. As a result of the debate lasting five years, the post of Tard was transferred to Mezőkövesd and that of Harsány remained on its place. Postmaster Bakos, having a lot of problems, was always more and more disillusioned in the royal favour, he complained at higher levels because of the unsuitable placing of his office, the unreal establishment of his salary and the refusal of the rent in kind (plough-land, grazing land for the horses). From his correspondence we can learn the life of the postal station, the accounting order of the postal incomes. József Hajnóczy cameralistic secretary took part in the correspondence, too, he was one of the victim of the Martinovics trial at the beginning of the reform period (1795). Postmaster Bakos planed to improve his situation, therefore at the influence of his relatives, he started to take part in private economical businesses, he had no experiences in this field, and used postal incomes to that aims, too. Because of the above mentioned he was convicted and he had to change his office with the postmaster of Szikszó at the 1st of November 1793. Having very big financial difficulties he committed suicide at the 15th of February 1794. His successor, postmaster József Szedliczky paid for the position 1800 Forints. As a person who became a nobleman recently, the county agreed with his nomination and a suitable place was assured for the office and for the postmaster from 1795. The fourth part of the study deals with the activity of the post in the ages of deligence, shows the methods of correspondence and the appearing of the censorship. It deals with the place of the Miskolc post in the network of the post in the country and with the situation of the roads in the town. In the time of the successors of Bakos (József Szedliczky 1793-1818, and after him his son István Szedliczky, 1818-1839) the post has got it permanent place. They were followed by the Duronells, this was the time of the reform period, with a lot of postal orders, than came the freedom fight of 1848/1849, with a lot of important regulation in connection with the post, too. The chapter with the title „The Austrian post in Miskolc" shows some of the postal regulations of the Bach era. This is the time when the post station gets his protection against the frequent floods. In the year 1895 there are two important happenings: the opening of the state telegraph station and the handing over of Tisza Vaspálya Company for the community. After the Compromise, in 1870, the post of Miskolc belonged to the Treasury, the staff salary were defined according to the state system payment classes.
