Kamody Miklós: Indul a postakocsi (Borsodi Kismonográfiák 35. Miskolc, 1990)
railway. The postal service timetable, issued in 1872, shows the travel and traffic order built out. In the second part of the century, between 1880-1900, the post was unified with the telegraph service, the telephone service was introduced (1888), as a result of it, the main post was moved on a new place three times. That was assured always by renting a building. In 1914 the plan of an independent post palace was prepared, which was built in 1938. The one hundred year past of the telephone service in Miskolc, its chronological description was issued in an other publication, here are only the more important events of the one hundred year mentioned in a chronological list. The study shows the postal traffic of Miskolc in the mirror of the development of the town at the beginning of the 20th century. The society, political events between the two World Wars had there effects on the staff of the post (Council Republic, Czechoslovakian intervention), the documentation of them shows an interesting portrait of the age. The development of the postal service in the town was helped by the new postal palace built between 19371938. The staff of the post was able to save it from the mad devastation of the war in 1944. The author characterizes the situation after the liberation with introducing the heads of the office, emphasizing the quick technical development (telephone, telegraph, transmission technique), because ofthat the post palace was several times enlarged (1954,1959). The past of the post in Miskolc is fully presented with the short historical survey of the postal transportation with horses and with the introduction of the small mailing offices in the suburbs and in the town. In the opinion of the author the present and the future of the post in the county town is served by the introduction of modern technique which helps to serve the customers more up-to-date, better and quicker, further on with the expansion of computer systems. It is annexed to the book a survey about the heads of Post 1 and Post 2 in Miskolc, and about their placing and at last, a summary about the whole staff of the head of post office, which celebrated it second centenary in 1989.
