Végvári Lajos: Imreh Zsigmond (Borsodi Kismonográfiák 13. Miskolc, 1981)

the structure of the colour surface. He replaces the loss of the material appearance of the motive with the special substance of painting material. The linear structure of the colours differ in their directions as well, yielding structural tension at the meeting points of the different colour surfaces. His still lifes, landscapes, figurái compositions, though born from the partial energy left after the daily toil, are the evidences of an artist with special talent. He was also aware of it, and he hoped to enlarge his artistic possibilities after retiring. Outer conditions seemed to help him, too: he was awarded with the grand prize of town Miskolc and received a nice and modern studio flat. Unfortunately he could not outfold his oevre, after long and hard desease he died in 1965. His commemorial exhibition was organised ten years after his death, on which occassion Mrs. János Kiss prepared the first oevre catalogue of the artist. The best works of the outstanding, but hardly known artist are placed in the public institutions of Miskolc, and there are also some paintings preserved in the Hungarian National Gallery.
