In 1980, the Department of Fine and Applied Arts of the Janus Pannonius Museum purchased an empire table and a sewing-box whose owner was confirmed by the baptism certificate of his father and grandfather. It turned out that his great-grandfather was a joiner in Pécs in the first half of the 19th century, and several of his ancestors pursued the same cra?. ?e two objects were preserved and honoured by the family, paying a tribute to the carpenter predecessors. ?is paper, and the details form the family history and the Birth Registers as well as the documents of the carpenter’s guilds of Pécs suggest that at the end of the 18th century Mátyás Beer/Pehr/Per and the son of the same name living in the first half of the 19th century were master carpenters in Pécs. Several sons of the latter – from the third generation of the family – have practiced the same cra?. ?e photo of Károly Zelesny was taken in their workshop in Nepomuk (today Mihály Munkácsy) Street.
