Kothencz Kelemen: Migráció és mesterség. Vándoriparosok Hercegszántón a XIX-XX. század fordulóján
Kelemen Kothencz Migration and trade Wandering craftsmen in Hercegszántó at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries In his paper, the author examines the activities of Slovakian wandering craftsmen from Northern Hungary (Nyitra and Trencsén Counties) who migrated to Hercegszántó. His sources are the birth, marriage and death records stored in the Archives of the Kalocsa Archbishopric. According to the sources, the first Slovakian settlers arrived at the settlement at the end of the 19th century. The Slovaks married among each other in the decades after settling evidenced by the registers. The registers also refer to the men’s crafts. The settled Slovak did the following crafts: pot mender, glazier, market showman, carousel operator and travelling photographer. When the demand for different crafts decreased, some Slovakian residents started new activities. Finally, the ethnic group used to the wandering lifestyle found its account in the market entertainment in the first third of the 20,h century. [Translated by the author] 98
