Bunjevci, Catholic Serbs and other people along the River Danube Migration of the South Slav ethnic and ethnographic groups during the Turkish period

Bunjevci people, who lived between the Danube and Tisza rivers, were categorized in a variety of ways in the early records: as Illyrians, Dalmatians and Catholic Serbs. The term “rác” usually refers to Serbian nationality; but in Dusnok, Bátya and Tököl villages, people also meant Croatians by this term.

From the Turkish times, more and more southern Slavic groups arrived in this region, including the Serbs. The study briefly summarizes the names of the individual Croatian ethnic groups.

However, we have to point out that the Croatians lived in the region before the Turkish times. In the papal decimals of the bishopric of Pécs (between 1332 and 1337), many Croatian people and priests were registered. Then this process has not been broken and it has continued until today.
