A Little Story from Szépliget

The Hungarian parish registers from the beginning until 1895 were microfilmed by the National Archives of Hungary in the frames of the so called Mormon microfilming action between 1960 and 1970. The camera negatives were given to the Genealogical Society of Utah, while the archives was given a positive copy for safekeeping and the support of further studies. Only the technical actions have been known of the whole process so far, and the ownership of the films has not been defined yet. The handling of the concrete orders regarding the copies of the parish registers of Kalocsa reveals what the state archival management's as well as the ecclesiastical office's status was concerning the ownership of the registers and the mass-copying of the microfilms.
