ADRIENN N AGY SORTING BY SAMPLING IN THE LIGHT OF LEGISLATIVE CHANGES IN THE HUNGARIAN NATIONAL ARCHIVES Under the Amendment of Section 3 of Act LXVI of 1995 the concept of sampling process has been included into the interpretative provisions, which concept has been used in recent decades by the representatives of the archival profession. This concept is such a process initiated by the public archives that happens for archival receipt of documents to be sorted out. In case of those archival items the whole archiving of which is not justified, but picking out and archiving of certain documents of lasting value is necessary for the purpose of enforcing the archival interest. The sorting by sampling process is the legislative codification of a method already used in practice and is an important milestone with regard both to the documents to be sorted out and the documents of lasting value and to be archived. Namely, public archives have the possibility already in the way prescribed by the law from July 2020 to weigh up to hold back an item number that can be sorted out according to the given archival plan by sorting by sampling process, that is, to grade certain documents or even a whole item as of lasting value.
