A ROMÁNIAI NÉMETEK SZOVJETUNIÓBA TÖRTÉNŐ 1945-ÖS DEPORTÁLÁSA ROMÁN SZEMSZÖGBŐL ESETTANULMÁNY: HUNYAD, FEHÉR ÉS SZEBEN MEGYÉK

One of the most important moments in the history of ethnic Germans in Romania was their deportation to the Soviet Union, in January 1945. “Reconstruction labor” in the Soviet Union represented a tribute that the Germans from Romania were required to pay to the war victor, considering that they were of the same ethnicity as the defeated nation. If we consider that approximately 12% of the deportees died (mostly young and able-bodied), we can appreciate the dramatic effects the deportation had on the communities. The year 1945 effectively represented the beginning of a major change, which continued until the fall of communism in 1989. This study presents the events connected to the deportation as they were perceived by Romanians from several urban and rural localities which held important German communities, from three counties, Hunedoara, Alba and Sibiu. Besides oral history interviews, the study is also based on general works about 1944-1950 and works specifically regarding deportation.

Romániában az egyik legfontosabb etnikai kisebbséget a németek alkották. Az 1930-as népszámlálás szerint az ország lakosságának 4,12%-át tették ki, létszámuk 745 421 fő volt.' A második világháború befejezése és Románia szovjet érdekszférába kerülése nagyban befolyásolta sorsukat, mivel a kommunisták, de Románia többségi lakosságának egy része is felelőssé tette őket a háború szörnyűségeiért. Bár nem gyakoroltak befolyást a III. Birodalom vezetőinek döntéseire, etnikai hovatartozásuk elegendőnek bizonyult az ellenük irányuló büntető intézkedések meghozatalához.* 2 Egységesen a Birodalom egyfajta ötödik hadoszlopaként bélyegezték meg őket,3 és ezért súlyos árat kellett fizetniük.
