IOO 1921 No. 78. 547/pol. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gratz, to the Representative of the Hungarian Government in Paris, Mr. Praznovszky. [TRANSLATION} Code telegram No. 45. BUDAPEST, February 1, 1921. Count Csekonics reports by telegram 1 that he had an audience with the Head of the State, and asked him to support our cause in Paris, which he promised to do. But Marshal Pilsudski considers the situation to be very complicated, because, apart from our neighbours, Italy and England are also intriguing against us ; the former frightening the French with the dynastic question, the latter with friendship for Germany. He does not therefore expect his support to have immediate concrete results, but he believes that they will come in the future. As to Rumania, Marshal Pilsudski said that the necessity of a reconciliation with Hungary had already been voiced by Poland in the course of the negotiations. Our greatest enemy, according to him, is Mr. Take Jonescu. The Marshal does not seem to attach as great importance to the Rumanian alliance as the Foreign Minister. 2 No. 79. 577/pol. The Hungarian Charge d'affaires in Vienna, Mr. Masirevich, to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gratz. [TRANSLATION] Code telegram No. 29. VIENNA, February 1, 1921. Press reports about the meeting between the Czech Foreign Minister Dr. Benes and Chancellor Mayr are confirmed by the Austrian Foreign Office. This morning Dr. Mayr travelled to Linz, where Dr. Benes will join his train and accompany him to Graz. Dr. Mayr is returning to Vienna to-morrow. 3 1 Supra, Doc. No. 69. 2 Prince Sapieha.
