1921 163 should be accredited as a de facto representative or as Minister, in the latter event with credentials from the Regent 1 addressed to the King of Rumania. 2 You are requested to reply by telegram. 3 No. 77. 51/res. pol. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gratz, to the Representative of the Hungarian Government in Paris, Mr. Praznovszky. [TRANSLATION] Code telegram No. 44. BUDAPEST, February 1, 1921. Count Csekonics reports by telegram 4 that he called on the Polish Minister of National Defence and asked him to support our cause in Paris, which the Minister willingly promised to do. At the same time he informed him of General Tánczos's presence in Paris, and the Minister promised to get into touch with him. In contrast to Prince Sapieha, General Sosnkowski in the first place seeks an alliance with us, and considers the Rumanian agreement only as a means to this end. In order to be able to support the matter successfully in Paris, General Sosnkowski has asked Count Csekonics for a review of our present relations with Rumania and of the conditions upon which an agreement would be possible. On the basis of material on hand at the Legation, Count Csekonics gave him a memorandum of a private character. 5 But as this material is not quite up-to-date and I am afraid that Count Csekonics included in his memorandum territorial questions, the raising of which I should consider extremely inopportune for the moment, you are requested to call on General Sosnkowski immediately after his arrival and to ask him not to mention territorial questions to the Rumanians. 6 1 H.
