IOO 1921 No. 75. 550/pol. The Minister of Hungary at the Vatican, Count Somssich, to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gratz. ' [TRANSLATION] Code telegram No. 6. ROME, January 31, 1921. I presented our request for the invitation of Bishop FischerColbrie to the Holy Father. 1 The Pope replied that there was no objection to it, but that it would be impossible to retain him in the bishopric against the express wish of the Czecho-Slovak Government. I replied to this that to give up the Bishop of Kassa would produce a very bad impression in Hungary, and that a Press campaign, which had been prevented with difficulty up to now, would undoubtedly begin. 2 No. 76. 1282/1. b. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Gratz, to the Representative of the Hungarian Government in Bucharest, Mr. Hory. [TRANSLATION] Code telegram No. 2. BUDAPEST, February 1, 1921. Answer to your telegram No. 5. 3 You are! requested to inform the Rumanian Government that my appointment as Foreign Minister has made it necessary to entrust Mr. Masirevich with the representation of our interests in Vienna and for this reason we found ourselves unable to send him to Bucharest. 4 For the post of Minister in Bucharest we are considering Baron Ivan Rubido-Zichy, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. You are requested to ask for an agrément for him. We shall leave it to the decision of the Rumanian Government, whether Baron Rubido — if he receives the agrément — 1 Cf. Vol. I, Doc.
