1920 78 9 No. 823. 8025/P0I. The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Count Emeric Csáky, to the Minister of Hungary to the Vatican, Count Somssich. [TRANSLATION) Code telegram No. 30. BUDAPEST, November 25, 1920. You are requested to induce the Holy See, relying on its repeated assurances in this respect, not to take any measures concerning the territorial and personal reorganization of Northern Hungarian bishoprics until the Frontier Delimitation Commission has completed its work. This request is reasonable in view of our expectation that the Commission will re-allot to Hungary part of the bishopric of Nyitra. Due to the closing of the Czech-Hungarian border by the Czechs, it is impossible to obtain written evidence of the desire of the population to have Bishop Batthyány return to Nyitra. 1 But he was assured, on leaving, of the unanimous loyalty of all concerned and since then a great number of priests, both Hungarians and Slovaks, have written letters expressing hope for his return. The Papal Nuncio in Budapest 2 believes that the reports about Kmetko's appointment are premature, since Batthyány has not even resigned. According to Czech newspapers, the Holy See appointed Vojtassák bishop of Szepes and Blaha bishop of Besztercebánya. No. 824. 8107/P0I. The Minister of Hungary to the Vatican, Count Somssich, to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Count Emeric Csáky. [TRANSLATION] Code telegram No. 53. ROME, November 25, 1920. The following bishops were appointed : Kmetko for Nyitra ; Vojtassák for Szepes; Blaha for Besztercebánya. I did not fail 1 Cf. supra, Doc. No. 789. 2 Schioppa.
