The documentation is completed by the Appendices, containing, in English translation, the Diary of the Hungarian Peace Delegation, Hungarian statutes which bear, directly or indirectly, on the inter­national relations of the country and a selection of addresses made by the Minister for Foreign Affairs in the course of parliamentary debates. In publishing this collection of documents, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs hopes to indicate a new path which scholars everywhere may pursue in their study of the complex problems of a comparatively little known, though much discussed, area of the European continent. Precise knowledge of facts is the foundation of every science and the starting point of all correct conclusions. Unfortunately those studying the causes and effects of political events are frequently impeded by the inaccessibility of basic information in government archives. In the period of history in which we are now living, it is of great importance that those who are willing to seek the truth should be enabled to distinguish between fact and fiction. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs hopes that in opening its archives, it is contributing its portion toward the attainment of that end.
