Résumé Twenty Years of the Hungarian-German Economic Relations (1989-2009) (In Comparison roith the Ten New EU Members) Germany is the single most important partner in foreign trade, investment, technology- transfer and cooperation for Hungary. Germany had taken this position even by the regime-change in 1989 and this role has not changed since then. The regime-change, the quick shift towards a market economy, the trade and capital liberalization, the geographic reorientation and restructuring of foreign trade on one hand, while - on the other one - the opening towards Central Europe along new lines by the re-united Germany defined the restructuring of the production and foreign economy as well as the substantial increase of operating capital funds of the region, including Hungary. However, the crisis in 2008-2009 exposed the extreme vulnerability and structural weaknesses of East-Central Europe, and especially those of Hungary, and retarded the economic catching-up in Central Europe and Hungary. It is absolutely necessary to concentrate on those long-term factors in the Hungarian- German economic relations that are indispensable for the foundation of a new era of commercial, operating capital funds relations, scientific and research and development cooperation. The greatest attention should be paid to a reliable economic policy and the creation of the foundations of a new and stable economic environment. It is imperative in the post-recession European economic cooperation for the regenation Central Europe, including Hungary, and the future Hungarian-German relations to provide competitive perspectives and development models for the investors. It is primarily the micro-level structural development, the reorganization of the dilapidated infrastructure, the improvement of the quality and staicture of human capital, as well as shortening the distance between research-and-development and innovation that may ensure that Central Europe and Hungary will join the mainstream post-recession European economic development. 2009. ősz 43
