Résumé The Political Right and Neoconservatism in the United States The center of gravity of American opinion is much further to the right - according to The Right Nation, a book written by John Micklethwait and Adrian Wooldridge. But what stands behind the emergence of the American right? And what is the role of the neoconservatives in it? The "revolution" has three main, but different factors or components: 1. Popular culture and grassroots networks. This includes the southern red-neck mentality, the so-called Bible-belt states. The Christian - mainly the neo-protestant - churches also play a relevant role. 2. The network of think-thanks and the media. These items supplie the scientific background for the revolution. Each conservative voice has its own establishment-system: the paleoconservatives, the libertarians or the neocons. 3. Finally, the most important factor is the neoconservatives. 128 Külügyi Szemle
