Véletlenül a kezünkbe akadt egy amerikai divatlap, melyben olvassuk, hogy egy new yorki női divat áruház öreg üzletvezetőjének az az ötlete támadt, hogy egyszer már a csúnya nőkre is kellene gondolni. És miután rájött, hogy egy jóformáju női kalap a legcsunyább arcot is megszépiti, tehát uj kalaptipust kreált kimondottan csúnya nők számára. Igen ám, de ezt a kreációt csak úgy lehetne népszerüsiteni, ha azokat csúnya eladó lányok mutatnák be a vevőknek. Ezért hirdetést tett közé a legna­gyobb napilapban, hogy kimondottan csúnya próbakisasszonyokat keres napi 1 0 dollár fize­téssel. Miután erre a hirdetésre a kutya se jelentkezett, a következő hirdetésre már 20, 30, 30 majd 1 00 dollár napi fizetést Ígért, de eredménytelenül. Ez a naiv női kalapos alapos tévedésben volt' amikor azt hitte, hogy bármi­lyen magas fizetéssel képes lesz olyan nőt ta­lálni, aki a nagy nyilvánosság előtt önként be­­vallaná, hogy — csúnya. Children did not just grow up, they were brought up by God-fearing parents. And it mattered little, or not at all, whether or not diese homes were humble, or poverty stricken; the environment was such that mental and moral giants developed in them. Abraham Lincoln, Daniel Webster, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Jane Adams, Henry Ford, Herbert Hoover, Walter Chrysler, and many others, too numerous to mention contributed to the luster of the name America. What has happened to our communities, to our homes and to our sense of values in our present day? Some will say that times have changed. This is a false assertion. If anything has changed, it is our moral, spiritual and individual concept of life in general. Time goes on and on, but we come and go, never again to return. And we delude ourselves in our thinking that whert was right and honorable in Lincoln's day is no longer our concern. .We are looking for explanations rather than for the eternally true principles to follow such as: honesty, brotherliness, truth and faith in God. Homes deteriorate into an aggregation of persons rather than becoming a harmonious entity. Some of our false prophets, sometimes labeled as "psychiatrists," tell us that the child has his right to "self-expression" whereby he or she is following his or her own instincts to do or not to do what the parent advises. Thus it is the delusion of "being modem." And instead of being trained, children are imposing their un­­their elders. The teenager demands a car, firearms for sport and other needless things which tend to divert the young mind from the natural interests such as study and improving intellect and character, to Hazardous ventures, sometimes resulting in tragedy. Some of these satisfied craving of children result in crimes. When the parent is called to the Police Station where the boy is held on a charge of murder with a weapon or having caused a serious accident with his car, both parent and child face each other -with a feeling of guilt at such moment, reflecting on past mutual failures. — Delinquency in such instances was nurtured unwittingly by parents who are convinced that they "love" their children. They tail to realize that love must Jasjdxised on a higher ground than "giving in" to children at all times. Unless parental love recognizes responsibility at the same time, it Is not love at controlled emotions upon parents, thus actually trying to train all but rather the contributing cause of delinquency. One of the answers seems to be to hold parents responsible tor the sins of their children. Only thus will we behold the dawn of the day when teen-age hoodlums will disappear from the American scene. Our school system should inaugurate a real progressive way of educating the youth to become law­­abiding, hard working and respected citizens of their com­munity even ag their forefathers are known to have been in their days.
