JÁNOS BOTKA - IZABELLA PAPP A DESCRIPTION OF AGRICULTURE IN JAZYGIA FROM 1776 (Ferenc Molnár's teachings about economics. Contributions to the history of agricultural associations in Jazygia-Cumania) This review intends to present, first of all, a precious historical source, originating from 1776. The description is a comrehensive and authentic record of the agriculture of the population of Jazygia in the second half of the 18th century. This work, found among the documents of the Jazygian-Cumanian District in the Archives of Szolnok County, was written by Ferenc Molnár, a well-known juridist and public figure of those times, with much experience in poetry and historiography. The title of the work was „A BOOKLET composed about economics for simple people's easy lessons...". Ferenc Molnár was active also as a member and secretary of the agricultural association of Jazygia-Cumania, being busy in improving farming and public education. Agricultural associations could inform the Council of Governors about their innovative concepts, proposals and experimental experiences in forms of competition-papers. Ferenc Molnár actually wrote such a paper, consisting of three parts, which he wanted to forward after getting the opinion of the Jazygian agricultural association. Beside the „BOOKLET" he also wrote the ,,Statutum"-s (a regulation scheme for the association) and the „Eternal calendar for households and fields". The society made a detailed evaluation and critical comments on the manuscripts, but finally did not suggest to forwarding them to Pozsony. By giving the opinion, however, the society made the facts more authentic and caused a more definite separation of Ferenc Molnár's innovative propsals. In connection with this description, other documents on the agriculture of Jazygia-Cumania are also presented, eg. with many details about Cumanian agricultural societies. This rich archive source provides us with useful information not only about the science of history and agricultural history, but also about ethnography, linguistics and about the history of education. 324
