Printed in the U.S.A. by BETHLEN PRINTING, West Plaza, P.O. Box 132, Ligonier, Pennsylvania 15658 (Tel: 412-238-9244) This issue marks the beginning of our fourth year in publication and the operational implementation of several major projects designed to expedite the realization of our objectives. One of these is to continue helping to bridge the “language barrier” between the older and declining generation of Hungarians in the United States and Canada and the new generations of American and Canadian-born citizens of Hungarian descent in order to help secure the preservation of our Hungarian Heritage in North America for the future. The other is to help promote a much better public understanding of and appreciation for the Hungarian contribution toward the history, development, and quality of life in both the United States and Canada. While we have certainly made considerable progress toward the achievement of these non-profit and meaningful objectives, there remains much more to be done. But as we review what we have programmed for 1989 on behalf of our “HUNGARIAN HERITAGE REVIEW" and non-profit RÁKÓCZI FOUNDATION-INTERNATIONAL, INC., we must admit that, while we can and will handle the heavy workload involved, we cannot meet the “seed money” funding requirements alone. We need your financial assistance to carry out the following endeavors: 1. To publish a bigger and better “HUNGARIAN HERITAGE REVIEW” and to increase its readership substantially by means of a costeffective, sales promotion campaign. 2. To republish an improved version of Stephen Sisa’s “THE SPIRIT OF HUNGARY” and, in addition to promoting its mail-order distribution, to make copies of it available in book stores and libraries nationwide. 3. To help our affiliated and Rutgers University associated, HUNGARIAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF AMERICA launch operations with a study-survey of the structure of the Hungarian community in the United States and to publish its results. 4. To help promote the expansion of the 3-year-old and successful, HUNGARIAN STUDIES PROGRAM at Rutgers University into a permanent CHAIR OF HUNGARIAN STUDIES by means of a Hungarian Studies Endowment Fund in the amount of $500,000 to be acquired during the next three year period. To make it possible for us to get working on these meaningful projects and to bring each on-line during 1989, we have no recourse but to appeal to our family of readers to help us with whatever amount they can afford. To be sure, each and every contribution will be recognized, regardless of the amount donated. Because of our non-profit status, contributions are tax-deductible. Please make your check or money order payable to the RÁKÓCZI FOUNDATIONINTERNATIONAL, INC., and mail to P.O. BOX 2203, UNION, NEW JERSEY 07083. It will be received with sincere appreciation.
