Unknown picoeukaryotic algae of shallow turbid soda lakes in the Danube-Tisza Interfluve B. Somogyi 1, T. Felföldi 2, K. Solymosi 2, J. Vanyovszki \ B. Böddi 2, K. Márialigeti 2, L. Vörös 1 'Balaton Limnological Institute, Tihany - 2Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest - 3University Babes-Bolyai, Cluj Abstract: Keywords: Autotrophic picoplankton show characteristic seasonal dynamics in temperate zone: picoeukaryotes dominate the picoplankton from autumn to spring while picocyanobacteria dominate it in summer. In winter the abundance of picoeukaryotic algae in shallow turbid soda lakes in the Danube-Tisza Interfluve (hypertrophic water bodies with picoplankton dominance) could reach extreme high values (in winter 2006/2007 it exceeded 10 8 cells ml" 1), however their taxonomic status is unknown. To get somé taxonomical information about the winter algae of these lakes, we isolated 13 picoeukaryotic algal strains from Böddi-szék pan and Zab-szék pan in December 2005. The reliable identification of such algal strains often requires molecular taxonomic methods because of their small size and simple morphology. Based on their 18S rDNA sequence analysis, all isolated strains belonged to the phylum Chlorophyta. Strains ACT0617 and ACT0619 belonged to group Pseudodictyosphaerium!Mychonastes, strains ACT0605 and ACT0610 belonged to the genus Choricystis. Strains ACT0608, ACT0622 and ACT0602 förmed a potentially new genus within the Trebouxiophyceae. The isolated strains were characterized by differential interference contrast microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. picoeukaryotic algal strains, shallow turbid soda lakes, 18S rDNS sequence analysis (Klossy Irén alkotása)
