Abstraet: The bulk of amphipods inhabiting Laké Balaton is composed of Corophium curvispinum. Present work deseribes the life history of this erustacean species living around the Tihany peninsula, in Bozsai bay. Samples from MyriopliyUum spicatum were taken tvvice a month during the vegetation period. The animals were sexed, their length measured and the eggs of females were eounted. Biomass was estimated on the basis of length-weight relationship. Length frequency histograms served to follow the life history of C. curvispinum. Reproduction lasts from May to October. The animals hatched in May-June reproduce in the same year while the summer-autumn generation reproduces next year. The life span is about 1 year. The highest fecundity was found in June, the lowest in October. Biomass in ing dry weight of animals per g dry weight of water plánt was the lowest in May (4,85), the highest in November (92.69). Using the data of Varga and Tóth (1986) on the biomass of M. spicatum, the biomass of C. curvispinum in the middle of July, 1986 was estimated to be 11.12 g animal dry weight per m 2, covered by reed-grass.
