Wastewater management in the country and the level attained is illustrated strikingly by the Dan Region wastewater treatment and reuse scheme (Fig. 7), the quality of the treated effluents emerging therefrom being shown in Table 2. Agriculture is the most important sector of the economy and also the largest water consumer in Israel (75%). The annual product value (1985) of agriculture is detailed in Table 3, the volumes and value of the exported products listed in Table 4, reflecting the high standards of agricultural production in Israel. A brief review is presented finally of the organizational pattern of hydrological data collection and studies, representing the scientific background of practical water management.
