Hidrológiai Közlöny 1979. 11. sz. 284 Dr. István Vágás has traced the hydrological conditions of the flood waves on the Tisza and Maros rivers causing the flood disaster, seeking answer to the question how the methods of hydrological statistics known 100 years ago could have contributed to the prediction and thus prevention of the disaster. Imre Kardos has reviewed on the basis of historical data the development of the flood levees and embankment walls at Szeged, describing in detail the flood control structures built after the 1879 flood and the new embankment wall system completed from 1973 to 1978. Dr. Gábor Iíováts has described the construction work on the ambankment wall from 1973 to 1978. Dr. Klára Dóka has conducted research in archives to compile the paper on the activities of the „royal commission" established to handle the erconstruction of Szeged Town. Dr. Jenő Bátyai has demonstrated in his paper the basic engineering principles and solutions adopted in reconstructing Szeged Town. Dr. Mihály Andó has considered from the viewpoint of the hydrogeographer the results and effects of extensive landfill projects in the area of Szeged Town. Dr. Woldemár Lászlóffy has pointed out that the flood disaster of 1879 at Szeged paved the way for establishing the water reporting service along the Tisza River. Szeged az 1979. évi árvíz idején.
