The present state and future trends of product development in the domain of mechanical equipment and technological process control elements used in wastewater treatment By Tóth I. In the introduction a review is given of the history of coordinated production, the need for product development is demonstrated, the early obstacles are listed, a program is suggested for product planning as the criterion of practical realization, further the new bases of production, together with the product programs are listed. Subsequently the results achieved during the past 5 years in product development, of mechanical equipment for wastewater treatment are listed, includings. Wastewater pumps, manufactured by cooperation between Hungarian and foreign firms to meet strict specifications. The need for an adequate supply of spare parts and a regular, organized servicing system is emphasised. Two types of thrash rack have been completed which can be manufactured in different sizes. Sand traps and removal devices require further improvement. The production capacity is available for regular manufacture, once the new devices have been designed. A wide variety of scrapers is available for circular settling basins, but the range of scapers must be extended for rectangular basins. For surface aeration a number of equipment types has been introduced, but the mechanical devices of pneumatic solutions need further improvement. Development work has been started on other equipment, mixers, tanks and closing organs, of which several types are already on the market, with possibility for extending the range as demand for them arises. The main data of products already available have been compiled in catalogues of mechanical equipment for water engineering. Development is required in the following domains: Tho improvement of mechanical equipment related to structures, and the composition of complete equipment sets for different technological processes (treatment of screenings and sludge). For the exact determination of mechanical parameters and for rating items of equipment, tho establishment of a testing station is suggested. In assessing the results obtained thus far it is concluded the coordinated and regular production has been realized by now. The composition of new sets of mechanical equipment is impossible without raising the volume of purchases abroad. At tho sam e time extended cooperation with other branchos of engineering is necessary, in order to derive greater benefits from investment, for the national economy.
