We have been following your progress with interest since your formation and have on several occasions provided speakers at your conferences. All those who have visited Hungary, myself included, were impressed by your enthusiasm and overwhelmed by your hospitality, 1 am sure that your conference this year will be as successful as those of previous years and I am particularly pleased that Elizabeth Melrose, who has done so much to further our contacts, will be attending in a personal capacity. It is a time of great change in the field of local studies in all countries. I hope that our Group's Guidelines for local studies provision in public libraries, edited by Committee member Don Martin will help to inform your future development in these challenging times. With best wishes to you all ian Maxted Chairman, Library Association Local Studies Group County Local Studies Librarian Chartered Institut» of Library and Information Professionals The Library Association is Register«!
