The suspension of the construction of the dam and the action demanding a referendum are especially apposite in the light of a declaration made by István Petrovszky, head of department of the Party’s Central Committee, on the Kossuth Rádió programme "168 Hours" yesterday in which it was said that all Part# M.P.s had been asked to reject the plán fór a referendum unanimously if the vote came before Parliaraent. According to the latter refugees who were previously sentenced fór violent acts and who "only come here in the hope of a better matériái existence . . . do nőt belong here" and are handed over to the Románián frontier controllers with no further thought fór their subsequent fate. Three leaders of the Independent Hungárián Committee In Defence of Transylvania sent the following telegramme to Karoly Grósz, Prime Minister and General Secretary of the Party, in reaction to this appalling announcement.
