On Monday the Hungárián Press Agency reported that "somé circles" in the Veszprém Youth Meeting had mislead participants vith demogpgic princi^les. On Tuesday Imre Nagy, the secretary of the Young Communist League (YCL), declared in an interviev in the paper Magyar Nemzet (Hungárián Nation) that the Press Agency had interpreted his remarks "falsely". On Friday however he apologised to the Agency fór his comment. These contradictory declarations reveal that the Party and YCL leaders still have nőt arrived at a common position. The YDA did nőt feature in any of the above reports, yet in an unofficial meeting held recently in the Patriotic Peoples Front Youth Committee a YCL official counselled the YDA nőt to expand further. On Saturday morning the YDA held an assembly in the Tinódi Cinema where they reported on the events of recent weeks. The "Self-Defence Committee" said that many people had left the organisation in Szombathely due to forceful police pressure and that the Ministry of Culture and Education had ordered leaders of the Eötvös Lorand University to prevent the YDA from operatin^ further. The YDA has initiated a libel case against the Press Agency and Magyar Hírlap (Hungárián News) because they would nőt correct their copy vithin the legal time limit. They alsó read out a letter sent to the university’s leading bodies by tvo colleges belonging to the Kari Marx School of Economics. The Rajk László College had written that the expulsion of reform intellectuals from the Party and the administrative steps taken against the YDA has created the fear "that those forces of the leadership predominate vhich wish to accomplish a transformation by adhereing to unchanging principles and unvarying constitutional and personal provisos. This type of control calls intő question intentions fór honest reform and the authenticity of their statements". The Young Communists in the Árts Faculty said that if their YCL committee will nőt acknovledge the YDA they will collectively leave their branch organisation and establisji a new YCL. The Hungárián Democratic Fórum’s letter of support vas read out and an account of financial donations received vas given. The participants have opened an information office with a P.O. box and would like to print their news. They voted to hold another assembly in May where a preliminary committee will be elected fór the Congress. There will be no leadership until the Congress, they will communicate through spokespeople.
