The letter gives a detailed account of the criminal proceedings against Károly Vicéi, a 44 year old writer from Senta, it stresses that Vicéi "by exercising the national minority rights guaranteed in the Yugoslav constitution tried to cultivate and propagate Hungárián culture, bringing together the peoples of multi-national Yugoslavia and our country". The signatories protest against the proceedings of this "nationalist trial" and ask the Presidium of the Yugoslav Socialist Republic to "do all it can to exoner- ate Károly Vicéi", On February 19th the court of first instance, Subotica High Court, sentenced Vicéi to two and a half years imprisonment bút the Vojvodina Province Court released him recently pending his appeal. Vicéi has now received the sentence meted out by the court of first instance in writing. In addition to the Hungárián writers, scientists and artists a number of workers and officials have alsó signed the letter addressed to the Yugoslav leadership. The signatories alsó included Miklós Duray who is the leader of the Czechoslovák Hungárián National Minority Legal Aid Committee.
