March 1978 Page 3 doctorate in canon law from the Appolinare University and his certification as a canon lawyer from the Sancta Rota Romana (the ordinary court of appeal for judicial cases appealed to the Holy See). After his studies, he was appointed to the chancery of Cardinal Prince-Primate Serêdi in the Archdiocese of Esztergom where he first served as diocesan registrar and later as Church notary. In 1943, he became Profes­sor of Canon Law and, in 1949 and 1950, Dean of the Theological Faculty. In 1964, the Vatican appointed him Titular Bishop of Matriana and Auxiliary Bishop of Győr. After the death of Bishop Kálmán Papp, Bánk was chosen as Vicar Capitular in July 1966. On 22 December of the same year, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Győr. In 1969 he became the Diocesan Bishop of Vác, and in 1974 the Archbishop of Eger, though he also cared for the Diocese of Vác, as its Apostolic Administrator, for another year. Since 1966, he has been a consultor to the committee working on the updating of the Codex Juris Canonici (Code of Canon Law) in Rome. A number of significant works published by him in the field of canon law testify to his scholarly activity in this area. Dr.László Kádár was born on 2 September 1927 in Eger. He was ordained to the priesthood as a Cistercian on 16 June 1950 in Budapest. After the dissolution of the Order in 1950, he became a diocesan priest for the Archdiocese of Eger, and served as a parish assistant in Felsőtárkány, then in Bélapátfalva, and finally in Eger.In 1966, he became Church notary at the diocesan court of Law, in 1969 the second secretary to the Archbishop, and in 1970 councilor to the Archbishop. As the holder of a scholarship, he studied languages in France in 1968-69. In March 1972, the Holy See appointed him Titular Bishop and Auxiliary Bishop of Veszprém. In 1974, he became Apostolic Administrator of the same diocese and, in 1975, its diocesan bishop. Dr.László Paskai was born on 8 May 1927 in Szeged. His high school years were spent at the Piarist's High School for Boys in Szeged. He began his theological studies at the Franciscans in Gyöngyös and, after the dissolution of the Order, ended them at the Theological Academy in Budapest. On 8 March 1951, he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Nagyvárad. He finished his doctoral studies at the Theological Academy in Budapest in 1952 and in the same year became the bishop's Master of Ceremonies in the chancery of the Bishop of Csanád. In 1955, he became Professor of Philosophy at the Theological College in Szeged and also its librarian, Prefect of the seminary, and also part-time assistant in a parish. In 1962, he be­came the seminary's Spiritual Director. In addition to his philosophy classes, he also lectured on ascetics and liturgy. In 1965, he was appointed Spiritual Director of the Central Seminary in Budapest. In the same year, he began to hold classes as a lecturer at the Theological Academy in Budapest.
