HIS Press Service No.11. March 1978 Page 4 studied modern philosophy at the Institut Supérieur de la Philosophie. In 1973,he became Rector of the Budapest Central Seminary. A series of philosophical articles written by Dr.László Paskai were published in the theological journal "Teológia." Dr.Ferenc Rosta was born 31 October 1913 in Buzsák (Diocese of Veszprém). As a scholarship holder at the Collegium Germanicum-Hungaricum, Ferenc Rosta studied in Rome and received his degree in theology from the Gregorianum. After being ordained a priest on 2 October 1939, he returned to Hungary and served as an assistant pastor in Buzsák, Zalabér, and Atala from 1941-43. In 1943-44, he worked as a religion teacher in Nagykanizsa, and was Professor of Theology in Veszprém from 1944-49. He was parish pastor in Balatonszemes since.1971. Previously he had been pastor in Pápa, Fonó, and Bálványos. Dr.F.Rosta was synodal examiner and judge for the Diocese of Veszprém, and also an elected member of the Priests Senate of that diocese. Since 1975, he was honorary canon. He played a decisive role in the translation of the new Hungarian Bible in that he himself translated parts of the Old Testament. Several articles written by Dr.Rosta have appeared in the theological e journal "Teológia." The large Archdiocese of Eger is one which demands a great deal of initiative from its head pastor and also brings with it a number of difficult tasks. The leadership of this diocese has been placed in the hands of a relatively young man who is full of activity - Bishop László Kádár. To head the in many ways important diocese of Veszprém, the Holy See appointed a dynamic person as Apostolic Administrator - Dr.László Paskai. There is every reason to hope that Dr. Paskai will prove to be an effective bishop. In the person of the newly designated Auxiliary Bishop, Dr.Ferenc Rosta, a forceful support has been created for the ailing Diocesan Bishop of Székesfehérvár. The new appointments have brought about no changes in the Diocese of Kalocsa. In accordance with present regulations, the now 77-year-old Archbishop Ijjas volunteered his retirement in 1976 upon reaching the mandatory age. In accomodation of the personal wish of the Archbishop, however, Rome has to date refrained from replacing him with another diocesan bishop. The expansion of the members of the Bishops Conference and the modification in the leadership of the episcopal sees were definitely undertaken with the intention of
