HIS Press Service, A Review of 1976 Page 13 Auxiliary Bishop Endre Kovács reported on the meeting of representatives of the European Priests Senates in Vienna. Imre Timkó, the Greek-Catholic diocesan bishop, reported on his negotiations with the government concerning the use of scholarships for priests which would enable them to study in France. Bishop Imre Kisberk reported on the new liturgical text for burial ceremonies which would soon be appearing and on the preparations for the new breviary. Bishop József Cserháti concerned himself with the questions dealing with the publication of the new religion books and with the tasks connected with ecumenism. The Conference confirmed the statutes of the Catholic Central Office for Art Treasures which was set up in 1971. The Conférence also released a statement on the upcoming Congress of the People's Front for the Fatherland and discussed questions concerning the Central Seminary and the Hungarian Papal Institute in Rome. During its fall session (28-29 September), the Bishops Conference stated that an agreement with Rome offered the members of the Hungarian Bishops Conference the chance to make their "ad limina" visits to Rome in 1977. Bishop Kisberk reported that the Hungarian translation of the breviary had been completed and that it would most likely appear before the end of 1976. Ideas were exchanged on how the unusually small number of candidates (28 theologians) study­ing for the priesthood at the Central Seminary in Budapest might be increased through appropriate measures. At the winter session (13-15 December), Primate Lékai was commissioned to represent the Hungarian Bishops Conference at the Bishops Synod in Rome in 1977. Imre Timkó reported that in Rome the Commission for the Revision of Church Law for the Eastern Churches had invited him to become a Commission member. The Bishops Conference designated Pentecost Sunday 1977 as the date the new penance rite would go into effect. The possibility that mail courses in theology for lay persons be offered by the Theological Academy in Budapest and other seminaries was discussed. It was also made known that, as in the past, foreign aid societies would continue to give financial support to the Hungarian dioceses in 1977. Resolutions were passed concerning the reorganization of the Hungarian Church press service, "Magyar Kurir," and the newly arisen community groups.
