HIS Press Service. A Review of 1976 Page 14 Diocese of Eger, 35 in Szeged, and 50 in the Greek-Catholic Seminary in Hajdudorog. The number of theologians studying in the diocesan seminaries of Esztergom and Győr was not made public. The Diocese of Szombathely, which has no seminary of its own, had 21 seminarians in 1976. 12 of them were studying in Győr, 3 in the Central Seminary in Budapest, and 6 were performing their military service. Doctorates were granted to 9 persons at the Theological Academy. Catholic publishing companies published 18 new books and 6 new editions of older books in 1976, For the sake of comparison, according to official government statistics 7,730 new works with a total of 74 million copies were published in Hungary in 1975. Of the total number of works published, 0.3% were Catholic; of the total number of copies, 0.16% were Catholic books. The great lack of religious books in Hungary is somewhat compensated for by the fact that in 1976 36 religious works in the Hungarian language were published in other countries and were also made available to the faithful in Hungary. The noticeable need to catch up on an understanding of religion made the radio series "Myths and Legends in the Bible" a great success. This series was a continuation of "The World of the Bible," another successful series produced by the Hungarian Radio as a program offering cultural and historical information. The series were put together in consultation with a group of believers and non-believers who specialize in the study of the Bible. In the latter half of 1976, a further new series entitled "Gods, Redeemers, Prophets" which takes a critical look at religion was begun. It will be continued in 1977. A home was opened in Kalocsa for retired priest from the Diocese of Kalocsa. In addition to a home for diocesan priests run by the State, this is the third home for priests set up by a diocese. The other two homes are in the Dioceses of Esztergom and Szombathely. The head of the government Bureau of Church Affairs and his representative visited the theological seminaries, gave speeches, and held discussions with seminarians in the highers semesters.
