344 zők, mint az országos gazdasági és pénzügyi helyzet változásai és az előre nem látható éves időjárás pozitív-negatív hatása, amik egy-egy évet akár teljesen tönkretehettek. A feudális hagyományú cívis polgári földbirtoklásról a polgári tőkés földtulajdonra történő áttérés sikeres példája a Zöld család története. Ennek a lassú folyamatban lezajló átalakulásnak több hasonló példája van Debrecen történetében, köztük sikeres és válságba jutó próbálkozások egyaránt előfordultak. A Zöld-birtokok esete tipikusan és sok egyéni sajátossággal mutatja be a debreceni jellegzetességű körülményekkel összefüggően egy tőkés polgári birtokrendszer kialakulását a középkori alapokból. A család a kor követelményeinek megfelelően szintén a hagyományokból nőtt ki és vált tőkés polgári vállalkozóvá, felismerve az adott idők szükségleteit és korszerű elgondolásokkal alkalmazkodva a követelményekhez. Hagyományos polgárból tőkés polgárrá váltak: nem a tipikus és legegyszerűbb úton, modem szakmát választva és ahhoz alakulva, hanem saját kereteik között megmaradva, azokat kitágítva. The History of a Cívis Farming Family in the Age of Capitalist Bourgeoisie: The Zöld Family Enikő Amália Lovas The topic of the essay is the history of an illustrious family of Debrecen, whose members originated from the Cívis traditions and the conventional lifestyle and environment related to that, but have risen from this background in various senses of the word. They belonged among the large Cívis landowners, and have preserved their economic positions there until the end of the capitalist period. Their social ranks were preserved by way of their personal successes and family relationships. At the same time, unlike the majority of persons in their environment, they were in possession of the ability for changing and for adaptive innovation, as a result of which they were able to preserve their wealth and raise in social status. The essay spanning three generations introduces three family heads, whose identical objective was to maintain the family and its background of wealth, albeit each with different methods. The transformation of the old-style Cívis farm-based husbandry by way of slow modernization into a complex system of estates concentrating on capitalist production can be observed. The history of the family is similar not to that of conventional Cívis landowners of Debrecen, but rather to capitalist entrepreneurs. This is well reflected in the process whereby they are clinging to their roots, but can also break away from them, and adopting their old traditions to the new times, recognizing the changed expectations and opportunities, they modernize and maintain themselves with further and further ideas.
