The citizens of Debrecen showed great interest in the intended reform of the appellate court system in the spring of 1890, and made great efforts for gaining the support of the minister and the government for the city. A delegation of the choice of the city and the region was sent from Debrecen to the capital to prove by way of their personal appearance and by delivering a memorandum that Debre­cen can, under no circumstances, be left out from among the future sites of the courts of appeal. The parliamentary debate is discussed in another essay of the same author, but it is also mentioned here that the city of Debrecen received unanimous support in the house of representatives, and the only risks posed to the implementa­tion of these plans were posed by the efforts of Nagyvárad (Oradea). The court of appeal was eventually opened with splendid celebrations on May 5, 1891. The story, however, does not end here, and in fact the real vicissitudes re­lated to its location only just started. After temporary locations and the much debate on the issue in the Ministry, the court was finally able to move to the judicial palace in 1896, which is home today to the Hajdu-Bihar County Court.
