PUBLIC HEALTH AND PUBLIC UTILITY SERVICES IN DEBRECEN AT THE END OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY Gábor Ölveti The author of the study examines the change of public utility services and in connection with it the situation of the public health according to the documents of the Town Council of Debrecen. In this period of development of civil society developed the network of public utilities to a level that created favourable conditions for the prosperity of industry and commerce and for the healthier circumstances of life in the town. Thus the process of urbanization meant to establish the easily cleanable road surface, the covered canal and the healthy well-water in Debrecen at the end of the nineteenth century and these were associated with the more effective public sanitation built on enterprises. So So in the consideration of the sanitary experts of the era there were together the claim to cure the infectious diseases and the claim to prevention of them by development of public utility services so the claim to cease the infectious focuses.
