CHARTERS REGARDING THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE NOBLEMEN TO THE COUNTRY TOWN OF DEBRECEN István Balogh III. The debate between the magistracy of Debrecen and the noblemen calmed down two decades after an ordering letter written in 1584 by Zsigmond Báthori. Nevertheless the litigation between the town and the legatees proceeded for obtainment of Kardos-mansion started again in 1585. At that time a man and a woman were alive from the family. The magistracy tried to get the noble mansion from the legatees by different types of trespasses (see documents No. 1, 5, 6). The male heir, Miklós Kardos wanted to change his mansion because of the continuous distur­bances (document No. 2). The town entered a protest with the reigning prince Zsigmond Báthori against the selling. As a consequence of the protesting the seller let the community of the town to have for ever the part belonging to him for 1300 forints. The sketch map show’s the place of the central mansion. 22
