field notes also recorded a second specimen, mailed by him more than twenty years ago for specialist referral through the Allyn Museum of Entomology, Florida Museum of Natural History (AME), where Eisele's collection is bequeathed. Unfortunately, given the passage of time and because the single specimen had been mailed by Eisele with other unidentified Lepidoptera, it has since been impossible to ascertain the identity of that original referee and the specimen's whereabouts remain unknown (L. D. Miller, AME, pers. comm.). Comparison of the single remaining Argentine specimen with historical and recent series of chilensis from throughout its range, as well as historical specimens of P. parana (see Appendix) indicates clearly that the northwestern Argentine population represents a separate species. It is described herein. Fortunately for this diagnosis, P. chilensis, both ubiquitous over a wide Chilean range, maintains remarkably uniform characters in both its wing and genitalic features. The newly described species, although obviously closest to P. chilensis in relationship, differs from both in wing pattern and colour and in marked genitalic features. Terminology herein for both external and internal features follows the previous papers on Pseudolucia (see Bálint and Johnson 1993, 1995). Acronyms for museums and insitutions were taken from Heppner and Lamas (1982). DECRIPTION OF THE NORTHERN SISTER OF PSEUDOLUCIA CHILENSIS Pseudolucia jujuyensis Bálint, Eisele et Johnson, sp. n. (Figs 1-2, 7) Holotype — male, labelled as "Coraya, (Dept. Humhuaca), Jujuy, Mt. to SW., 3500 m, 23.11.77, male" [handwritten]; "Argentina, leg. Robt. Eisele"[handwritten], "gen. prep. No. 896, Bálint" [printed, number handwritten], deposited in AME. Diagnosis — The species is closest to P. chilensis, but notably differs from this latter species in wing shape, colour, pattern and male genitalic features. Compared to chilensis, in the view of the new species: (1) Fore wing appears narrower, its outer marginal wing length shorter relative to costal wing length (see Discussion); (2) Dorsal ground colour is unicolourous pale brown with strong greenish reflection {chilensis is deep brown with conspicuous orange discoidal spot and paler green reflection); (3) Ventral colour in basal and medial area of fore wing is pale yellowish grey, while the hind wing is pearlly white with its macules pale and without black pupilation (chilensis is deep orange basally and medially on fore wing and on hind wing, coloured beige with sharp Figs 1-2.
