Figs 1-2. Female internal genitalia of Megalithone tillyardi Riek. — 1 : internal genitalia, dorsal view, 2: fertilization canal and attached structures of internal genitalia, lateral view, ag = postbursal accessory gland, be = ductus seminalis, mo = median oviduct, rs = receptaculum seminis, v = vagina. Fig. 3. Spermathecae of Polystoechotes punctatus (Fabricius), dorsal view ITHONOIDEA According to Schlüter (1986) both Ithonidae and Rapismatidae belong to this group, while the position of the latter family is regarded to be uncertain by New (cf. New 1991). Really, FEIG of Rapismatidae are known only superficially, and their early stages are completely unknown. Consequently, systematic position of this family is dubious. As it was detailed above, in the Ithoniae (besides some well known primitive eidonomic features), FEIG also represents a plesiomorphic status with paired spermatheca, with the peculiarly sclerotized ductus seminalis, which is incorporated to the large bursa copulatrix, and with a "sialid-like" dorsal surface of the latter organ. Moreover, the five segmented larval antenna (Fig. 4) in this family also is plesiomorphic with the minute, distinct apical segment, and without modifications on the penultimate and ante penultimate segments. (Within the Neuroptera the multisegmented flagellum is regarded as apomorphic feature (Aspöck 1992).)
