Map 1. Collecting localities of the examined male and female specimens of Raphida mediterranea H. Asp., U. Asp. et Rausch. Ba.: Baja, Bt.: Biatorbágy, Hh.: Hajdúhadház, Hm.: Hódmezővásárhely, Mm.: Mosonmagyaróvár, To.: Tompa, Ve.: Vasegerszeg, ZL: Zala vár, Lebúj-puszta species, too. (However, it is possible that further investigations of Iranian materials will show: R, mediterranea is a subspecies of R. iranica.) As regards the male genitalia, the subapical teeth of parameres in the case oi'R. o. ophiopsis are large, irregular, forming a distinct lobe basally, while in the case of R. mediterranea and of R. iranica the same are relatively short and regular and they do not form a lobe basally. Moreover, the hypovalva of R. mediterranea and of R. iranica is short, whille that of R. o. ophiopsis is long. Likewise, the ecological demands and the zoogeographical status of R. o. ophiopsis and R. mediterranea are also different. Raphidia o. ophiopsis is a Siberian faunal element and lives always in coniferous forests, while R. mediterranea (which lives on some parts of Anatolia as well) is a Ponto-Mediterranean element, and it is found in very different biotopes with or without coniferous or deciduous trees (Aspöck et al. 1991). The examined R. mediterranea males were collected on the lowland territories of Hungary without coniferous woods, and mostly with gallery forests. (On the other hand, most of the speciemens of the other Raphidioptera species collected in Hungary was captured on hilly regions.* * It is worth mentioning that J. Földi was the first Hungarian author who wrote about Ruphu í L. He mentioned that this insect "lives in Europe in coniferous forests, but over here it is often Hying in the windows of houses" (Földi 1801). As J. Földi was living at Hajdúhadház, on the lowland territory of oui country, his remark probably referred to Raphidia mediterranea. Besides, one of the examined R. medih pe imens was collected just at Hajdúhadház.
