Cladius pectinicornis Geoffr. (Hym.) a parasite of thi strawberry in Hungary By Dr. V. Martinovich Horticultural Research Institute, Budapest-Budatéténv Cladius pectinicornis GEOFFR. was known until now as a parasite of rose species in Hungary. In 1966 the parasite also appeared in Budatétény on strawberry. Its damages have been met over since. Overwintering of this species takes place within the cocoon in praepupa stage. The flying time of the spring generation is in the middle and end of April. Copulation lasts 15-20 seconds. The fecundated female does not take a further male. The number of eggs per female in the first generation 28-35 in average, in the second and third 4345, and in the fourth generation 21-25. The period of oviposition lasts for 1-3 days at 20 C°. Females layed eggs also without fecundation; of these only males were hatching. Oviposition began l/2-l hour after pairing. The female sank her eggs one by one into the epidermis of the petiole in 5-10 rows. The time of embriónál development lasts on 21,5 C average temperature for 7 days. The eggs taking up water increase gradually; just deposited eggs grew 41 per cent in with compared to the average of the first day's measuring. Hatching of larvae lasted on 18,5 C° for 4-5 minutes. Larvae exuviated four or five times during their development. Of the four times exuviating ones males, of the five times exuviating ones females could be generally got. The number of exuviations is not always constant, there could be found also males among the five times exuviated larvae.Larvae originating of parthenocarpia exuviated always four times. Time of larva-development is on 21,5 C° average temperature 10,2-12,4 days. The larva begin feeding on the leaf in the petiole of which it had developed as embryo. In
