A STAG FROM MYCENAF. 79 CATALOGUE Neolithic Period Four Late Neolithic fragments from open shapes can be assigned to this period, representing characteristic types of the Corinthia. 1. (Fig. 2a) Dark-on-Light matt painted body fragment from open shape [B3a?]. From Co­rinth, Temple Hill. H. 4.1 ; W. 4.4 cm. Medium fine fabric with rare small black grits. Fracture 1OYR 7/3 very pale brown; 2.5 Y 7/2 light grey slip on exterior and traces on the interior burnished to medium high lustre; matt 1 OYR 4/2 dark greyish brown paint. (Fig. 2b) Polychrome painted rim fragment from a wide deep bowl. Gonia Polychrome ware [B3ß].Unknown provenance. I), rim not measurable; H. 5.6; W. 4.2 cm. Medium fine fabric with rare small brown grits. Fracture 5YR 7/3 pink; slipped and burnished to medium high lustre, exterior 7.5YR 8/3 pink, interior 7.5YR 7/4 pink; bichrome 7.5YR 4/2 brown and 2.5YR 5/6 red matt paint on both sides. The brown paint is put over the red. Panelled decoration: broad red hori­zontal and vertical band outlined by narrow black lines frame the decoration of the inner field painted on the buff background: on the exterior brown-black „N" motifs?, on the in­terior diagonal black line. (Fig. 2c) Polychrome painted handle fragment of a bowl. Gonia Polychrome ware [A3ß]. From Gonia. H. 4; W. 3; Th. 0.9 cm. Fine fabric with very rare small white grits. Fracture 1 OYR 7/3 very pale brown; interior surface 1 OYR 7/4 very pale brown; exterior slipped and burnished to medium high lustre 10YR 7/4 very pale brown; bichrome 2.5YR 5/4 - 5/6 reddish brown to red and 2.5YR 4/2 - 3/2 weak red to darkish red matt paint on exterior. Decoration: Concentric triangles in red paint framed by black painted lines. Late phase of LN. Cf. Gonia, PHELPS 2004, Figs. 45, 19; 83, 21. 4. (Fig. 2d) Dark-on-light painted rim fragment from a cup. Gonia Red Pattern-Burnished Ware? [A3ß?]. From Gonia. I). rim not measurable; H. 3.9; W. 3.3 cm. Fine fabric with occasional small white grits. Fracture 5YR 6/1 grey; slip 1 OYR 7/3 very pale brown; semi-lustrous 10R 5/4 weak red paint on exterior, on interior painted all over in I OR 5/6 red to 5/2 weak red. Decoration: Painted rim band, below part of a net pattern closed by a horizontal band. Late phase of LN. In lack of good parallels for the decoration, the classification of the fragment remains uncertain. Early Helladic Period From the ten Early Helladic fragments nine represent characteristic shapes (sauce­boat, saucer, askos) and fabrics of the EH II period. On the basis of its decoration a patterned sherd can be assigned to the Ell III period.
