The type is generally dated to the Augustan and Flavian period 2 1 but the amphorae found in Carnuntum, Knossos, Ostia and Portorecanati may have been produced la­ter, perhaps as late as the end of the second century A. D. 2 2 The site of production is not known but it seems likely that they were produced in the Aegean. 2 The best known wine container in 2—4 centuries AD. was the Kapitän II / Nie­derbieber 77 / Agora К 113 type 2 4 (Fig. 1, No. 6). It is well recorded in Pannonian Limes (Fig. 3), and was used from the end of second century to the end of the fourth century 2 5.
