120 TAMÁS BEZECZKY SUMMARY In Pannónia, it was the Romans who started to drink Mediterranean wines. On the basis of the amphorae collected so far, the military and the civilian population consumed Italian, Istrian and Spanish wines. Beside the wines, they regularly consumed Spanish fish sauce, Istrian and Spanish olive oil, Italian olives and various fruits. 2 7 The native population of Pannónia did not need the wine or any other food which arrived here in amphorae - at least there is no such evidence among the material antedating the Roman conquest. 2 8 Fig. 4.
