István Ecsedy: Két neolitikus idol Kelet-Magyarországról
42 I. ECSEDY Fig. 1. Neolithic idol. Szeghalom-Kovácsdomb /. ábra. Ujkőkori idol. Szeghalom-Kovácsdomb 2. Find place: environments of Körösladány. The exact site and date of the find are unknown, the object came into the collection of the Museum through a donation. 2 The statuette (Fig. 2) is burnt of a husk-tempered clay of a brownishgrey colour, with black spots. Its form corresponds to a flat prism, the base of which is a rectangle with rounded corners. The crown of the head is indicated by a slight arch, the neck is not formed plastically. The schematically modelled head part is parted from the body at the place corresponding to the genial process by an incised line, converging in an obtuse angle. The front is divided by a short line, incised vertically; the eyes are indicated by horizontal incisions; to the horizontal line, marking the mouth, a short, vertical incision is attached, which makes the mouth T-shaped. The arms are not represented; at the places, corresponding to the shoulders, are two small perforations. The torso of the statuette is covered with an incised meandroid pattern. Fractures on the lower part of the short, stumpy legs indicate that the statuette stood originally on small props. Sexual characteristics are not even indicated. Though the find circumstances of the two statuettes are not known explicitly, they are, on ground of their size and decoration, to be regarded as closely 2 Mentioned in: Idole.
