FL 32905 The Marys The New Testament mentions seve­ral Marys — more than any other wo­men with similar name. We should not attach too much significance to that. Evidently Mary was a popular name. Mary is a Greek version of Miriam in Hebrew. Miriam was the sister of Moses and Aaron. The meaning is un­certain. Its origin goes back to Egyp­tian history. For us the remarkable note about the Marys in the New Tes­tament is that all of them set an examplefor us about the service of the Lord and about the dedication to the Lord. The Mary whom we should mention first is the Mother of Jesus. Her great­ness is evidenced before the birth of Christ. Indeed the New Testament mentioned her only a few times after the birth of Jesus. But there are beauti­ful sentences about her in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke (Matt. 1:21—23, Luke 1:28—30). Think of her profoundfaith and sub­mission to God. She was with child. According to the Jewish law, because she had no husband, she should be severely punished. People should ostra­cize her; and her family should reject her. And yet what she said with trust in the Lord: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” (Luke 1:38) How could she escape the ridicule, the hatred and the rejection of the friends, neighbors and relatives? There is only one explana­tion: Her faith was victorious! Faith can move mountains, but more than that, faith can mute enmity, prejudice and wrong opinions. In all these adverse circumstances Mary stood strong — strong enough to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem. But read the “Magnificat ”— “My soul magnifies the Lord". (Luke 1: 46—58) It is a beautiful poem which has inspired hundreds of composers to create “magnificent ” music during the centuries. Who else could have written such an elevated poem under the circum­stances in which Mary was before the birth of Christ. Where did Mary learn to write poems? Such a poem that has November elsején nagy öröme volt a New York-i gyülekezetnek. Új lelki­­pásztora, Kulcsár Sándor érkezett meg Romániából családjával. A repülőtéren mintegy négy és fél­órái várakozás után, amikor az ajtó kinyílt, a várakozók megláthatták a Kulcsár családot. Az ott álló érdeklő-Háló Barnabás, gyülekezeti vén (bal­oldalt) üdvözli Kulcsár Sándor testvért. dők megjegyezték, hogy ezek valami fontos emberek lehetnek, hogy egy egész delegáció vár reájuk — mintegy 26 személy. Még a felügyelő őrség is meglepődött és elfelejtette kitessékelni a népet a hivatalos kijárattól. A tíz kocsi karaván megindult aztán Manhattan felé, hogy a gyülekezet ke­retén belüli szeretetvendégségen részt vegyenek és tovább is együtt örvendez­hessenek az érkezett testvérekkel. November 2án az egész gyülekezet üdvözölte az új prédikátort. A reggeli összejövetelen 71-en voltak. A gyüleke­zethez az angol istentisztelet keretén kept its beauty for centuries? Mary must have been a beautiful women. Only a beauty in soul and body could produce such a beautiful piece of literature. Events after the birth prove that she was an educator. I cannot help think­ing that some of that knowledge which the 12 year old Jesus demonstrated to the priests was the result of Mother Mary ’s home instruction. Az istentisztelet után szeretetvendég­­ség volt, amikor ünnepélyes keretek között emlékezett meg a gyülekezet az újonnan érkezettekről. Tóth Mária test­vérnő egy ízletes tortával ajándékozta meg a Kulcsár-családot. A tortán ez az írás volt: „Isten hozott kedves Kulcsár család! 1986. XI. 1A délután keretén belül bizonyságtételeket, énekeket, és a Két örömnap a New York-i gyülekezetben
